Abstract
The current article studies the 20th century poetry in Chile by examining the relation between the food imagery and the rural communities, in particular those located in the central region of the country. These are represented as lost and vanished communities, which implies the gradual disappearance of customs, traditions and local identities. Additionally, in the poetic texts the urban food system is represented as an alienated and foreign space, linked to fragmented and marginalized identities.
