Abstract
The historical development of States has conditioned its borders, but also in the clash of geopolitical representations, such as the Nicaragua - Colombia dispute submitted to the International Court of Justice. The archipelagos of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina, were in Colombian hands since 1928, but Nicaragua claimed to define a new line that included his property, the continental shelf and the exclusive economic zone. We intend to analyse the main aspects of historical and geopolitical, using a qualitative methodology, with a time frame between 1928 and 2012 that seeks to understand the ICJ decision. © 2018, Universidade de Lisboa.
